Canada Colour is a project that’s very close to my heart. It wasn’t something I set out to build initially, but through a series of personal and professional experiences, it’s become a way for me to reconnect with the places and stories that have shaped me.
For over a decade, I worked as a journalist—first in Vancouver, then in Istanbul and Tokyo. I had the opportunity to tell stories from all over the world. Throughout it all, one thing became clear: symbols matter. They represent the places we call home, the values we hold, and the connections we make.
When I left Vancouver to study at King’s College in Halifax, I realized that while there were plenty of ways to show my Canadian pride—flags, patches, and trinkets—none of them truly captured what it meant to be from British Columbia. The options were limited, and many of the products I found just didn’t resonate with me. They were often mass-produced, impersonal, and didn’t tell a real story.
Fast forward to the pandemic. My life, like many others, took unexpected turns. I got married, had a child, and moved to Montreal to pursue my MBA. This new chapter gave me the opportunity to reflect on my path—my background in journalism had always served me well, but I found myself questioning what to do next.
I wanted to find a way to bring people closer to their roots. And that’s when Canada Colour came to life.
Thank you Brett and Tanya for bringing back the various colours of our country with a modern twist and beautiful design. Your prints will hang proudly in my office as a reminder of this great country we live in !
